Hot, goddam hot

It's 10 pm and the temperature outside is 101. My air conditioner is going full blast, ceiling fans are blowing, and the thermostat tells me it's about 75, but I swear that stifling heat radiates inward from the walls to combat the a/c, creating pockets of different temperatures. I feel awful, cannot move or enjoy not moving.

I crave moist fudgy chocolate brownies with pecans.

Sunday and Monday yoga classes have left unused muscles stiff and sore and knee joints aching. Yet it also feels good to have positioned and folded my limbs at odd angles -- feels freeing, like rust flakes falling off. Guarding my left knee so closely the past two months has restricted my movements to one plane, forward and back. It hurts to get on all fours, knees pressed into the mat (table pose). The funny thing is that it hurts both knees. I don't recall ever feeling discomfort in that position before the surgery. I expect it from the left knee because they did shave off raggedy cartilage from the back of the patella. But why does the right one hurt?

Class started Monday (short day), and today was the full five hours, lecture plus lab. It's tiring, even though so far it's going well. I enjoy the honeymoon phase before the first exam. I have only about 20 students (compared to my usual 120), which makes grading far less oppressive. Even though papers come in quicker succession (one week per day equivalent), not having to do a huge pile of the same thing over and over and over and over should reduce my suffering significantly.

I'm just going to go to bed. Blah!
