Venus
Finally, some fun for me. Betweeen working most of Saturday and setting up a lab practical exam tonight, I decided to lunch on Indian food and to see Venus. I've been wanting to see that film for weeks. I am fascinated with aging actors. I love their faces -- their wise humanity, their humor, their diminished but hopeful expectations, their weaknesses, their surprising strengths. I can only hope to age like a talented actor, my essential powers intact, people still paying to see me!
A woman sitting behind me snorted in disapproval throughout the film, and a man behind me snored softly through the last half. A woman in the restroom said how depressing it was and how hard to look at O'Toole at his age. I sat in the stall, moved to damp eyes at the wonderful collage of wisdom, longing, stupidity, silliness, and pain, marveling that we had seen the same film.
